MedPoint Urgent Care in Laredo offers walk-in lab testing for individuals, families, and employers. Our licensed providers order and review every test so you leave with answers, not just paperwork.
Every lab test at MedPoint is ordered by one of our licensed nurse practitioners, and every result is reviewed with you before you leave or communicated directly to you. You will always speak with a provider about what your results mean and what, if any, follow-up is recommended.
You can walk in for most lab services during regular clinic hours. No referral is required. Just come in, check in at the front desk, and our team will take care of the rest.
We accept most major health insurance plans and offer self-pay rates for patients without insurance coverage. See the full insurance list in the section below.
Walking into a clinic for a lab test is straightforward at MedPoint. Here is what to expect from check-in to results.
Walk in during clinic hours and let the front desk know you are here for a lab test. Staff will collect basic intake information and get you into the queue. No appointment or referral is needed for most lab services.
A licensed nurse practitioner will meet with you briefly to review the reason for the test and place the appropriate lab order. This step ensures the right test is ordered based on your symptoms or situation, not just a name on a form.
Depending on the test, a staff member will collect a blood sample, a nasal or throat swab, a urine sample, or perform a skin test. The process is brief and our team will walk you through each step.
For rapid tests, results are typically available before you leave the clinic. For standard lab work, samples are sent to a reference laboratory. Once results are in, your provider will review them with you or contact you directly.
We offer a range of lab tests for walk-in patients in Laredo. Services are organized below by how results are delivered.
The following tests are processed on-site. Results are typically available before the end of your visit. Your provider will review the results with you and discuss any recommended next steps.
A nasal swab test that checks for the presence of influenza A or B virus. Useful when flu-like symptoms develop, particularly during flu season.
A throat swab test that checks for group A Streptococcus bacteria, a common cause of sore throat and fever. Results help providers determine whether an antibiotic prescription is appropriate.
A nasal swab test that checks for the presence of SARS-CoV-2. Recommended for patients with COVID-19 symptoms or known exposure.
A nasal swab test that checks for RSV, a common respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in young children, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
A urine test that checks for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone present during pregnancy. Results are typically available within minutes.
A blood test that checks for antibodies associated with Epstein-Barr virus, the most common cause of infectious mononucleosis. Often ordered when a patient presents with prolonged fatigue, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes.
The following tests require samples to be processed at a reference laboratory. Results are not available same-day. Your provider will contact you when results are ready.
We offer a range of blood panels depending on your provider’s order. Blood tests can be used to assess general health, check for infection or inflammation, evaluate organ function, and more. Your provider will order the appropriate panel based on your reason for the visit.
We offer confidential STD testing for a range of sexually transmitted infections. All test results are handled with strict privacy. If you have concerns about confidentiality, please speak with our front desk or provider before your visit.
A urine test that can help evaluate urinary tract health, check for signs of infection, and screen for certain metabolic conditions. Commonly ordered when a patient presents with urinary symptoms or as part of a general health assessment.
We offer TB testing for patients who need it for employment, immigration, school enrollment, or health monitoring purposes.
The following services are available for employers and employees in Laredo and Webb County. We work with both individual patients and employer accounts.
We provide urine-based drug screening for pre-employment and workplace compliance purposes. This service is used by employers who require a negative drug test as part of their hiring process.
We offer alcohol testing as part of pre-employment and compliance screening programs.
For employer accounts or volume testing inquiries, contact us at (956) 615-0266 or visit our Occupational Health page.
One of the most common questions patients have before coming in is how long results will take. The answer depends on the type of test.
Rapid tests use a point-of-care device to analyze your sample on-site. Results are typically available before you leave the clinic. These tests are designed to give your provider a fast answer when time and symptoms matter most.
Rapid tests have known limitations. They are highly useful for clinical decision-making, but a provider may recommend confirmatory testing in certain situations. Your provider will walk you through what the result means and whether any additional steps are needed.
Standard lab work involves sending your sample to a reference laboratory for analysis. This process takes more time but allows for a wider range of tests and, in many cases, greater precision.
When your results are ready, a member of our team will reach out to you.
MedPoint Urgent Care handles non-emergency lab testing and urgent care. If you are experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, signs of a serious allergic reaction, loss of consciousness, or any other life-threatening symptom, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
