Student Medical Clearance for Nursing & Allied Health Programs in Laredo

One visit. Everything your school requires. Walk-in friendly, bilingual, and built around the deadlines that matter to you.

Built for students in Laredo's health programs

If you’re enrolled in a nursing, medical assistant, EMT, allied health, dental, or veterinary program in Laredo, your school has a list of medical requirements you must complete before you can step into clinicals. We’ve built our Student Medical Program around that exact list — the physical exam, the TB test, the respirator fit test, the titers, the vaccines — so you can finish everything in as few visits as possible and hand in clean, signed paperwork on day one.

Whether you’re a student at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), Laredo College, an LISD CTE health program, or any other accredited program in the area, we welcome you.

Everything your program asks for, under one roof

Most Laredo health programs require the same core items. We can do all of them at MedPoint — typically in a single visit.

TB Testing — Skin Test or Blood Test

We offer both options. Children under 2 receive the Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST), which requires a return visit 48 to 72 hours later so a clinician can read the result in person. Everyone age 2 and up receives the T-SPOT IGRA blood test, which doesn’t require a return visit and is widely accepted by health programs.

A positive skin test or blood test only confirms exposure to TB. If your test is positive, your provider may order a chest X-ray and additional lab testing — both available on-site at MedPoint.

Pre-Clinical Physical Exam (with school clearance form)

A complete physical from one of our providers, documented on your school’s clearance form. If your program doesn’t supply a form, we can use ours.

95 / Respirator Fit Test

Most clinical rotations require a documented respirator fit test before you can enter a patient room. We perform fit testing on-site so you walk out with the documentation your school needs.

Titers (Immunity Testing)

We draw and run titer panels for the antigens most schools require, including MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella (chickenpox), and Hepatitis B. If a titer comes back negative, we can administer the booster on the same visit when available.

Vaccines and Immunizations

Most programs require Tdap, Hepatitis B series, MMR, varicella, and the seasonal flu vaccine. We can administer these and document them on your school’s immunization record.

Drug Screen (when your program requires it)

Some programs require a urine drug screen as part of clearance. We can collect and process this for you in the same visit as your physical.

Why students choose MedPoint

For program directors, school nurses, and student services coordinators

We work with health program coordinators to schedule student cohorts in blocks during enrollment windows in August and January. If your program would like to standardize where your students get cleared, we’d be glad to talk through what that looks like — scheduling, dedicated coordinator contact, and reporting.

Bring your school's form — we'll fill it out and sign it

Most programs hand you a form they want filled out exactly the way they wrote it. Bring it. Our providers will complete it during your visit.

If your program doesn’t supply a form, we’ll use our own clearance template that documents:

FAQ

Do I need an appointment?

No. You can walk in during our open hours: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you’d rather book ahead, we accept appointments through our online booking system.

Most students complete the physical exam, TB test, and fit test in a single visit. The Mantoux skin test (used for children under 2) requires a return visit 48 to 72 hours later for the read.

The T-SPOT IGRA blood test is processed at our lab and results are available shortly after the draw. The Mantoux skin test (children under 2 only) requires a return visit between 48 and 72 hours after the injection so a clinician can read it in person.

The skin test (Mantoux TST) injects a small amount of fluid under the skin in the lower arm; you must return in 48 to 72 hours for a clinician to look for a reaction. The blood test (T-SPOT IGRA) measures how your immune system responds to TB antigens in a single blood draw — no return visit required. We offer the skin test for children under 2 and the blood test for everyone age 2 and up.
